OUT/IN/FRONT is a bi-annual exhibition highlighting local designers to share innovative and exciting design work, research, theory and practice culture with students and the larger professional design community.
This year’s theme celebrates scales of work that are often overlooked or under-examined, not because they aren’t meaningful or effective, but simply because of their smaller size. We invite you to share work that highlights practices, projects, technical interventions and outcomes small in scale, but mighty in their impact.
You’re welcome to share finished work or works-in-progress. Submission details are below.

What Qualifies as a Small-Scale Intervention?
A small-scale design project
A procedural intervention in design or planning
A unique, impactful project detail
A focused piece of a larger project

What are the unique challenges and opportunities of designing at a small scale?
How can small-scale interventions support climate justice and resiliency?
How might these interventions enhance accessibility and inclusion?
What advantages or possibilities emerge from working at a smaller scale?
Submission Requirements
- One or more 30”x42” vertical presentation boards
- A ½–1 page narrative describing the work and its connection to small-scale interventions
- Clear graphics, a focused message, and engaging visuals
- A representative available at the opening event to discuss the board topic
- View examples of past submissions
*If you have a previously printed board or existing materials that fit with this topic, you are welcome to submit those along with the narrative described above. Please indicate that you are using this option when registering to submit.*
Registration Fees
Registration (suggested donation per board):
Nonprofits/Government Agencies: Pay what you can
1–10 people: $100
11–30 people: $150
31–50 people: $200
51–100 people: $300
100+ people: $400+
Printing Fee (required): $15 per board
Online Payment -OR- make arrangements to drop off your printed board(s) to Gould Hall by April 29th.
