Out/In/Front is our bi-annual fundraising event which illustrates the breadth of work currently taking place in the field of landscape architecture. The exhibit is used to inspire students and professionals by exposing them to various ideas, mediums, spaces and artistic visions.
Out/In/Front is open to all projects, interventions, or proposals in which the work of landscape architects plays a prime role in shaping the built environment.
Call for Entries: March 2025
Projects will be exhibited Wednesday, April 30 through Wednesday, May 14. The opening night reception, on Wednesday, May 7, is open to students, professionals, and the Seattle design community.

- Location: Gould Hall Court – University of Washington
- Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 7 2025
- Reception RSVP: Link forthcoming
OUT/IN/FRONT: Small-scale Interventions, is a showcase for local designers to share innovative and exciting design work, research, theory and practice culture with students and the larger professional design community.
Our goal this year is to celebrate scales of work that are often overlooked or under-examined, not because they aren’t meaningful or effective, but simply because of their smaller size. We invite you to share work that highlights practices, projects, technical interventions and outcomes small in scale, but mighty in their impact. You’re welcome to share finished work or works-in-progress.
A Small-scale Intervention may include:
- A small-scale design project
- Small procedural interventions into the design or planning process
- A unique or impactful project detail
- A small piece of a larger project
You may choose to explore one of the following prompts with your presentation board:
- What are unique considerations to take into account when designing at a smaller scale?
- How could small scale interventions support climate justice and resiliency?
- How might small scale interventions support accessibility and inclusion?
- What are the advantages, opportunities and possibilities of working at a smaller scale that might get lost on bigger projects?
Our community of students, staff, faculty, and professionals seek to be exposed to a wide spectrum of practice possibilities including (but not limited to) public practice, design firm work, non-profit work, career alternatives to design practice, rural-focused practice, design research, post-occupancy studies, pro-bono work and community engagement. Through this exhibit we hope to generate conversation, while strengthening our community, and exploring the applications of the practice of landscape architecture.
