Kove Janeski (UW Farm Operations Lead) writes: The UW Farm has been experimenting with cereal cultivation this growing season: we have grown and are processing multiple wheat varieties at the Center for Urban Horiculture Farm site and are also testing out a small planting of quinoa within Mercer Court’s Chenopodiaceae plot. Alongside the Farm’s other chenopods, such as beet and chard, the Farm’s quinoa has grown over 6 feet tall!

InterAction Nepal | Spring 2023 | Bhangal Community Hall

During the spring quarter of 2023, the UW Department of Landscape Architecture sponsored the InterAction Nepal program in collaboration with the Kathmandu University Department of Development Studies. UW and Nepali students from multiple disciplines worked with community members from Bhangal, Budhanilkantha, an informal urban settlement in the Kathmandu Valley destroyed during Nepal’s 2015 earthquakes.

ANNOUNCING: Vincent Javet as Assistant Teaching Professor

We are delighted to announce that Vincent Javet will join our department as an Assistant Teaching Professor beginning in summer 2023. Vincent has previous experience in both teaching and professional practice. Trained as a landscape architect and urban planner, Vincent is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at Rutgers University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on 2D digital design, 3D digital design, visualization, construction (materials and assemblies), material tectonics, and design studios in green infrastructure…

CBE students featured on the Belltown Community Council Meeting

Our Winter quarter studio “Envisioning Belltown as a 15-minute Neighborhood” led by Affiliate Associate Professor Laure Heland was featured in the April issue of Belltown United.  At the Belltown Community Council meeting, CBE students Alex Holbrook (Architecture), Katherine Magee (Landscape Architecture, Urban Design & Planning), Pedro Ramos (Architecture) and Eve Wang (Landscape Architecture) delivered a great presentation of the Studio framework and their design projects.  The student team generated stimulating conversations and visions for revitalizing Belltown in the 21st century!
