Shaunta Butler

Shaunta Butler is a designer, artist, craftsperson and educator. She is currently a graduate instructor at Boston Architectural College, a lecturer at University of Washington, and partner at 6B workshop, a community design firm based in Seattle. She is also an annual fabrication lab resident at the Haystack Mountain School of Craft. A multidisciplinary educator, Shaunta has taught, lectured, and coached for over a decade on three continents, instructing students from elementary to graduate levels in landscape architecture, architecture, technology, user experience, design/build/fabrication, mixed media, and digital media at institutions including Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Boston Architectural College, The Wheeler School of Providence, RI, American School of Mumbai, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, NuVu Studio Innovation School, and MIT.

Her pedagogy focuses on human and spatial design via a practicum that includes applied learning, research, experimentation, and community engagement. As a practicing professional, she’s worked in motion and graphic design, landscape architecture, architecture, advertising, print production, film, and multimedia for over a decade–not only as an independent creative, but also as a project manager, design educator, and innovation coach. Community engagement remains a core focus of her leadership, pedagogical, and service philosophies. She considers it incumbent on the design professions to foster broader access and exposure to our disciplines to students at a younger age. Shaunta grew up in Boise, ID, and holds Landscape Architecture degrees from Colorado State University and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
