Shaine Wong
(she/her)
Grace Shaine Wong is a registered landscape architect, designer, and educator. Rooted in the belief that design is a powerful tool for positive change, her work explores how landscape architecture & design can meaningfully respond to critical global challenges – from climate adaptation, environmental remediation to social justice and equity. She approaches design with the conviction that resilience and impact are achieved not only with bold conceptual vision, but also through craft and thoughtful execution – the material clarity, details, and textures that shape the everyday experience.
At Mithun, an interdisciplinary design practice, Shaine is the design lead of several projects including the Water Quality Facility Community Benefit site along the Duwamish River, and two public school campuses in the Northshore School District; advancing landscapes grounded in social impact, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. Her prior design experience at Reed Hilderbrand and OJB Landscape Architecture includes a range of complex public realm and cultural projects: the BSLA-awarded Water Street Tampa Waterfront District, 13-acre Potomac River Generating Station Waterfront Park & District Open Space, Turkey Bend Adaptive Reuse, and the UNESCO Alamo Interpretive Plan and Civic Plaza.
Prior to teaching at the University of Washington, Shaine served as adjunct lecturer at Northeastern University and the Boston Architectural College, mentoring students across disciplines in courses on urban ecology, advanced digital communications, landscape representation, and design studio in coastal resiliency. She received the BAC Faculty Development Grant in 2021.
Shaine earned her Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, graduating with academic honors and an ASLA Certificate of Honor, and a Bachelor’s in Landscape Studies from the University of Hong Kong, with Dean’s and First Class Honors. Her thesis, “The Constructive Destruction”, received the 2020 World Landscape Architect Award of Excellence and is featured in several publications and exhibitions.
