John Payne

Lecturer

John brings over thirty years of broad- based professional experience to his work in the field of landscape architecture. John’s previous career as an Army leader has instilled in him a firm belief in the power of teamwork to realizing a project to its full potential, and the personal and professional skills to play an integral role in any group. He has used these skills in both domestic and international projects of varying scopes and scales, including Governors Island Park and Public Space Project, and the Toronto Central Waterfront.

As a landscape architect and certified arborist with additional ISA tree risk assessment (TRAQ) certification, John has managed projects through every phase of the design and construction process. His project involvement has included design, project management, public presentations, operations and maintenance planning, construction documentation, constructability reviews, takeoffs & estimating, and construction administration and observation.

John is particularly interested in integrating design and construction through early and consistent collaboration amongst designers, fabricators and builders, coupled with operations and maintenance considerations to realize holistic, sustainable and resilient projects.
