2013 ASLA Student Honor Award to Nikkei Manor Courtyard

Congratulations to Daniel Winterbottom and students of the Spring 2012 Design/Build studio for winning another ASLA Student Honor Award in Community Service!!!

Check out the ASLA Award Page here:   Ichi-Go Ichi-E Garden Courtyard (Nikkei Manor Assisted Living)

“Through an intense collaboration between students and residents of Nikkei Manor, the “Ichi-Go Ichi-E” garden addresses the unique needs of the elderly Japanese American residents. The team integrated the therapeutic and restorative benefits of nature, referenced important cultural traditions and provided universal access to the elderly users. The process necessitated dynamic and challenging interactions between students and residents, students and design and ultimately between design and building. The resulting garden nurtures contemplation, growth, rehabilitation and renewal.”

Each year, the ASLA Professional Awards honor the best in landscape architecture from around the globe, while the ASLA Student Awards provide a glimpse into the future of the profession. We are delighted to share the 2013 Professional and Student Award winning projects with you.
