Sharing a post from Green Futures Research and Design Lab and their floating wetlands work from Winter quarter 2020!

Sharing a post from Green Futures Research and Design Lab and their floating wetlands work from Winter quarter 2020!Green Futures Lab (GFL) is back at it! While we are continuously adjusting to the "Stay at Home" period during our 2020 field season, we still wanted to share project updates with the community on the Duwamish Floating Wetlands Project. Earlier this year GFL began the construction of the BioBarges for 2020. With an interdisciplinary team of University of Washington Huskies, we rolled up our sleeves together during winter quarter and began prototyping the **NEW** Biofilter 2.0s. These Biofilter 2.0s are much lighter than our 2019 prototypes, and help create a softer edge for the Biobarges while out on the Duwamish River! Take a look at photos from one of our class construction parties! {{Please note: These photos were taken between Jan-Feb 2020 before Covid19 orders. Jeff Hou: You do SO MUCH. Do you ever sleep? It's pretty amazing....

Big congrats to two deserving people within the UW//LA community who, despite trying times, earned themselves College of Built Environment (CBE) awards this year. Students nominated and voted for Ken Yocom, recipient of this years Lionel “Spike” Pries Award For Teaching Excellence. This award recognizes outstanding teaching by faculty within the CBE for this past academic year.

Nick Dreher was awarded the Distinguished Staff Award within the CBE. As nominated by college faculty, staff, and students, this award is intended to recognize the recipients extraordinary contributions to the College in the past academic year. We are proud and lucky to have both Ken and Nick in our department—thanks for all that you do!
