Last week, BLAs completed their design build capstone project in South Lake Union. They retrofitted a fountain to build a rain garden that redirects runoff from an adjacent parking garage, sending water into an absorbent landscape and mitigating the burden on CSOs.

Congratulations to Janie Bube, MLA student, and team for receiving $28,100 of grant funding from the UW Campus Sustainability Fund - CSF for SENSOL Modular Crosswalks. The team is creating a new hybrid prototype of LED and solar that lights up directly under the pedestrian as they cross to increase awareness and commuter cooperation.

Awesome graphic with this post, I love it!

Speaking of interdisciplinary, Monday night, Livable City Year celebrated a year-long partnership with the city of Bellevue in which hundreds of students from all three UW campuses engaged 30 projects in the city. The College of Built Environments was well represented, as was @uw_landscape_architecture with a set of proposals for a swath of invasive-overgrown wetland at the @bellevuebotanical Garden. Developed during an advanced planting design seminar, the proposals address biodiversity, climate change, non-human species habitat, education, and nature play.
